COPYRIGHT - FALL 2007

Course Syllabus

Peter B. Maggs

The materials for this course are: (1) Casebook: Cohen, Loren, Okediji & O'Rourke, Copyright in a Global Information Economy, Second Edition (2006) and (2) Cohen, Loren, Okediji & O'Rourke, Copyright in a Global Information Economy: Statutory Supplement (2006). You may also want to download a copy of the Copyright Act to keep on your laptop computer. You can find the Copyright Act at <http://www.copyright.gov/title17/>.

Whenever the casebook mentions a section of the Copyright Act, you should study the text of the section and also definitions of terms used in the section (found in Section 101 of the Copyright Act)

Grades in this course will be based entirely upon the final examination. The exam will be completely open book and open computer, but closed network (no Internet, no wireless connections, no online databases, no chat, no instant messages). You will be allowed to use any printed, typed, or written material that you wish. You should bring the casebook and supplement to the exam.   WARNING: EXAM ANSWERS CONTAINING LONG ABSTRACT STATEMENTS OF LEGAL RULES NOT TIED INTO PARTICULAR ISSUES RAISED BY THE EXAMINATION QUESTIONS WILL SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCE YOUR GRADE. SO BE CAREFUL ABOUT CUTTING AND PASTING.
